FutureMARES @ COP26 - 'Offshore Renewable Energy and Climate-Smart MSP Roadmap' Event

Clean offshore renewable energy is a key tool in reaching several SDGs and mitigating climate change. It plays an ever growing role in Marine Spatial Planning (MSP), and efforts to integrate the various uses of the sea into climate-friendly plans and visions have increased in recent years. As FutureMARES aims for improved marine nature-based solutions and the mitigation of climate change, climate-sensitive MSP lies at the heart of its activities across Europe and CELAC countries.

UN Global Compact, the Global Wind Energy Council, and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO) recently launched the ‘Roadmap to Integrate Offshore Renewable Energy in a Climate-Smart Marine Spatial Plan’. As part of this initiative, a launch event will take place on Friday, Nov 5, 2021 during the COP26's Ocean Day in Glasgow. As a contributor to the UN Global Compact, FutureMARES partner Ana Quieros (PML) is involved in this event, representing our project and working towards a climate-ready future ocean.
